20, Psalm 139; Numbers 23-24; Isaiah 60; 1 Thessalonians 5:23-28

Psalm 139

1 O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. 4 I
2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. 6 I
3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. 6 I
4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. 5 I
5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. 9 I
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. 4 I
7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? 11 I
8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. 5 I
9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 7 I
10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. 5 I
11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. 2 I
12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee. 2 I
13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. 19 I
15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 5 I
16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. 3 I
17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! 6 I
18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee. 4 I
19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.
20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.
21 Do not I hate them, O Lord, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 27 I
24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. 29 I

Numbers 23

1 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams. 10 I
2 And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram. 10 I
3 And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure the Lord will come to meet me: and whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place. 10 I
4 And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram. 10 I
5 And the Lord put a word in Balaam’s mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak. 10 I
6 And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab. 10 I
7 And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel. 10 I
8 How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the Lord hath not defied? 12 I
9 For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations. 10 I
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his! 12 I
11 And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether. 10 I
12 And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the Lord hath put in my mouth? 12 I
13 And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence. 10 I
14 And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar. 10 I
15 And he said unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt offering, while I meet the Lord yonder. 10 I
16 And the Lord met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus. 10 I
17 And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the Lord spoken? 10 I
18 And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor: 10 I
19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? 16 I
20 Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it. 14 I
21 He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the Lord his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them. 10 I
22 God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn. 12 I
23 Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought! 12 I
24 Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain. 10 I
25 And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all. 10 I
26 But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the Lord speaketh, that I must do? 10 I
27 And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence. 10 I
28 And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward jeshimon. 10 I
29 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams. 10 I
30 And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar. 10 I

Numbers 24

1 And when Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness. 11 I
2 And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him. 10 I
3 And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said: 10 I
4 He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open: 12 I
5 How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel! 14 I
6 As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river’s side, as the trees of lign aloes which the Lord hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters. 12 I
7 He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted. 10 I
8 God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows. 10 I
9 He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee. 10 I
10 And Balak’s anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together: and Balak said unto Balaam, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times. 10 I
11 Therefore now flee thou to thy place: I thought to promote thee unto great honour; but, lo, the Lord hath kept thee back from honour. 10 I
12 And Balaam said unto Balak, Spake I not also to thy messengers which thou sentest unto me, saying, 10 I
13 If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the Lord, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the Lord saith, that will I speak? 12 I
14 And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and I will advertise thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days. 10 I
15 And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said: 10 I
16 He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open: 10 I
17 I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth. 10 I
18 And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly. 10 I
19 Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city. 10 I
20 And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish for ever. 10 I
21 And he looked on the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock. 10 I
22 Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry thee away captive. 10 I
23 And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when God doeth this! 10 I
24 And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever. 10 I
25 And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balak also went his way. 10 I

Isaiah 60

1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. 29 I
2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. 14 I
3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. 12 I
4 Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. 8 I
5 Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee. 8 I
6 The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the Lord.
7 All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory. 4 I
8 Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows? 6 I
9 Surely the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the Lord thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath glorified thee. 2 I
10 And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister unto thee: for in my wrath I smote thee, but in my favour have I had mercy on thee.
11 Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought.
12 For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted. 2 I
13 The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee, the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will make the place of my feet glorious.
14 The sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee; The city of the Lord, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
15 Whereas thou has been forsaken and hated, so that no man went through thee, I will make thee an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations. 2 I
16 Thou shalt also suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shalt suck the breast of kings: and thou shalt know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob. 2 I
17 For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness.
18 Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.
19 The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the Lord shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. 11 I
20 Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended. 6 I
21 Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified. 4 I
22 A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the Lord will hasten it in his time. 4 I
