Proverbs 13

1 A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke. 4 I
2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence. 5 I
3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction. 7 I
4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat. 7 I
5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame. 5 I
6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner. 12 I
7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches. 2 I
8 The ransom of a man’s life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke. 2 I
9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out. 11 I
10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom. 12 I
11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase. 5 I
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. 5 I
13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. 14 I
14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. 7 I
15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard. 5 I
16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly. 2 I
17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health. 2 I
18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured. 5 I
19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil. 7 I
20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. 13 I
21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed. 9 I
22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. 9 I
23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.
24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. 3 I
25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

Proverbs 14

1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands. 7 I
2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the Lord: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him. 9 I
3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them. 5 I
4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox. 2 I
5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies. 2 I
6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth. 4 I
7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit. 5 I
9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour. 4 I
10 The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy. 4 I
11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish. 5 I
12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. 16 I
13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness. 6 I
14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself. 2 I
15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going. 7 I
16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident. 7 I
17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated. 9 I
18 The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge. 5 I
19 The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous. 8 I
20 The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.
21 He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he. 10 I
22 Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good. 5 I
23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury. 2 I
24 The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly. 4 I
25 A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies. 6 I
26 In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. 14 I
27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. 17 I
28 In the multitude of people is the king’s honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.
29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly. 16 I
30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones. 20 I
31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor. 14 I
32 The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death. 12 I
33 Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.
34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. 10 I
35 The king’s favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.

Deuteronomy 19

1 When the Lord thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the Lord thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses; 10 I
2 Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it. 10 I
3 Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither. 10 I
4 And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbour ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past; 10 I
5 As when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live: 10 I
6 Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past. 10 I
7 Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee. 10 I
8 And if the Lord thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers; 10 I
9 If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the Lord thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three: 10 I
10 That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee. 10 I
11 But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities: 10 I
12 Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die. 10 I
13 Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee. 10 I
14 Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour’s landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it. 10 I
15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established. 10 I
16 If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong; 10 I
17 Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the Lord, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days; 10 I
18 And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother; 10 I
19 Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you. 10 I
20 And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you. 10 I
21 And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot. 10 I

Amos 3

1 Hear this word that the Lord hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,
2 You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities. 4 I
3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed? 8 I
4 Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?
5 Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?
6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it? 2 I
7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. 18 I
8 The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy?
9 Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof.
10 For they know not to do right, saith the Lord, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.
11 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; An adversary there shall be even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled.
12 Thus saith the Lord; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch. 2 I
13 Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord God, the God of hosts,
14 That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him I will also visit the altars of Bethel: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.
15 And I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith the Lord.

Matthew 1

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 6 I
19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. 4 I
20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 4 I
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. 18 I
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 5 I
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. 11 I
24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 4 I
25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus. 4 I

Matthew 2

9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. 4 I
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 6 I
11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh. 4 I
12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. 4 I
3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 I
4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. 4 I
7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
