Now therefore be ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord God of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth. (Isaiah 28:22)

Be ye not mockers.

See on v. 15. Do not scoff at the warnings of coming destruction, Isaiah pleads.

Bands be made strong.

Resistance would only add to their guilt and increase their punishment (see Jer. 28:10, 13).

A consumption, even determined.

Literally, “a decision to annihilate,” that is, to eradicate sin and to extirpate sinners from the earth.
