Love and hatred are here brought into sharp contrast. Hatred motivates those who deliberately make trouble between others by talebearing (Jer. 20:10, 11; 5T 94, 241, 242). On the other hand, love forgives and forgets; love puts aside all the bitterness that may have been suffered, and is ready to return good for evil (Matt. 5:9; 6:12; 1 Cor. 13:4-7; 1 Peter 4:8; 1 John 2:9-11).
